This 3 hour field day includes ID of common herbs found in the hedge & meadow, making hawthorn leaf & flower herbal preparations, harvesting for home use, and a glimpse of the fascinating history & folklore of Crataegus: The Generative Genus. Bonuses: a day in nature, fresh air and good company!


This foray takes place on a private farm in a 50+ year old hawthorn hedge. The hawthorns are diverse here. You'll learn how to tend & harvest hawthorn trees. You'll begin to see the structure, biodiversity and habitat establishment found in hedges.  Learn how hawthorn hedges support human & ecological health and vitality. This is also a hands-on practicum on making hawthorn herbal preparations with the leaves and flowers in the wise woman tradition. Once registered, you'll receive a list of tools & medicine making supplies to bring along for this take along~make along field day in the hedge! Each session limited to 7 participants.

  • In compliance with Covid~19 guidelines. Physical distancing of 6', face coverings, and supplying your own tools apply for the Hawthorn Field Day. 

  • Due to the Pop-Up nature of this offering there are no refunds once registered. If for some reason you are unable to attend and upon notfication prior to the Field Day, you can transfer your registration to a later course through RavenCroft Garden less a $15.00 administrative fee for transfers. No exception!
