This 4 hour field day includes ID of common herbs found in the hedge & meadow, making hawthorn fruit herbal preparations in the field, harvesting hawthorn to take for home use, and a glimpse of the fascinating history & folklore of Crataegus: The Generative Genius. You will have the opportunity to harvest enough fruit for a year of hawthorn eating in syrup, oxymel, tincture, cordial, and the myriad other ways haw can be brought into your life on a regular pulse.
Bonus: a day in nature, fresh air and good company!
This foray takes place on a private farm in a 50+ year old hawthorn hedge. The hawthorns are diverse here. You'll learn how to tend & harvest hawthorn trees in the fall. You'll learn to see the structure, biodiversity and habitat found in a hedge. Learn how hawthorn hedges support human & ecological health and vitality.
This is a hands-on practicum. You will harvest and make hawthorn herbal preparations with the fruit in the wise woman tradition.
Once registered, you'll receive a list of tools & medicine making supplies to bring along for this take along~make along field day in the hedge!
